CSU State of Colorado Cup Champs.

Congrats to Colorado State University in their 6-4 victory over CU in the inagural State of Colorado Cup. Thanks to both teams for coming out to Ballyneal and especialy to Head Coach of CU, Roy Edwards for proposing the initial idea. Best of luck to both schools going forward this season.

The State of Colorado Cup

Today, The University of Colorado and Colorado State University kick off their golf season in a Ryder Cup style tournament called The Colorado Cup. 4 four-ball matches and 7 singles matches will decide the winner. In true Ballyneal style the winner of the previous hole will pick the next tee-box. Updates and results will follow later today.

Aerification Time

Fall is right around the corner and we have begun our processes to ready the golf course for winter.  If you have been here in the last week or so you may have noticed some aerification holes on the tees, approaches, and fairways.  Believe it or not, I love this process as much as every golfer in the world does.

Community Service

We have taken many steps over the past three years to become part of our community and contribute to the area.  We have provided materials and some labor to the Holyoke Community Garden, adopted the Holyoke fourth grade classes for their involvement in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, and taught an after school program for the third graders.

The War on Yucca

If you have ever been to Ballyneal I am sure you have had an experience with a Yucca.  It might have been an errant golf shot that left you with a hazardous lie right in the middle of one, or you ordered Yucca Chips at the Turtle Bar.  It is an amazing plant and has many uses for survival if you ever get lost looking for your ball.  They thrive in our arid climate and when you're here you can't get away from them.

I first saw Ballyneal on August 1, 2004. This was prior to construction, when huge PVC pipes marked the fairways and greens. Rich Cummings and I traipsed over the chop hills in the afternoon, and the next morning at 5:30 a.m. I joined Dick Durrance and Rupert at the property. We hopped on ATVs and bounced to locations where Dick wanted to make photos.
